 LIFE AFTER PANDEMIC

The Mother of all pandemics is said to be one hundred years old, synonymous with unexplained clinical and epidemiological characteristics. Far less of the present total populace had seen the multi-year pandemic in 1918-1919, Spanish Flu. After a century, another dreadful pandemic COVID-19 outbreak was first identified in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. Nepal enforced a nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of COVID-19 on March 24, 2020 when Prasiddhi Shrestha, the second Covid-19 case of Nepal was tested positive. Massive sanitization practice, use of masks, handwash, social distancing started with that. Till date there are 3235 positive cases in Nepal with 365 recovered cases and 13 deaths. As the country walked towards the 70+ long periods of lockdown, prolonged lockdown is hurting the livelihood of the ordinary people due to which the small vendors have begun to defy the lockdown and are raising their voices against the government claiming that lockdowns are not appropriate without proper and adequate policies. The end of the pandemic cannot be foreseen as the latest positive cases have sharply increased day after day but one can examine life after pandemic from various perspectives. This article explores the two primary viewpoints i.e. the economic and psychological perspective.

Economic perspective

The magnitude and speed of collapse in the economic activity that has followed since the world was put into a great lockdown is unlike anything experienced in our lifetimes. While there is no way to tell exactly what the economic damage from the global novel coronavirus pandemic will be, there is widespread consensus among economists that it will have severe negative impacts on the global economy. Early estimates predict that if the virus becomes a global pandemic, most major economies will lose at least 2.4% of the value of their gross domestic product  by 2020, leading economists to reduce their global economic growth forecasts from around 3.0% to 2.4% by 2020. While the global economy has suffered, Nepal alone cannot be an exception. According to the annual Asian Development Outlook 2020 report, the multilateral funding agency slashed its growth forecast for Nepal to 5.3 percent this fiscal year, which ends mid-July, a sharp decrease from last year's 7.1 percent growth. At the same time, the unemployment rate in the United States, the world's largest economy reached 4.4 percent. Unemployment has risen in most developed countries. The situation is expected to be more pathetic in developing countries like Nepal. Monetary issues such as unemployment, poverty, reduced remittances can be seen in the context of Nepal. The effect of this global pandemic can be in sectors like: financial, industrial, tourism, hospitality, airlines, movie industry and government revenue collection.

Psychologicalperspective:

An estimated – one-third of the world’s population  is living under some kind of lockdown or quarantine. This is arguably the largest psychological experiment ever conducted. During the pandemic, individuals are faced with stress of different kinds, such as the risk of contamination, fear of getting wiped out or losing friends and family, as well as the possibility of budgetary hardship, yet individuals are further relaxed due to less work pressure and less examination burden on undergraduates. However, as there is an end of pandemic, individuals get going to their work,  all the work that has been accumulated ought to be done quickly and understudies get assessment and study pressures. All sorts of get-away are cutoff to finish the syllabus and workload. Along these lines, again all the hustle and bustle, rushing about will begin. Presently as the legislature is additionally intending to loosen up the lockdown still a few people are in the dread of this infectious ailment. It is truly challenging to persuade the individuals that dread must not be permitted to command one's life yet everybody ought to acknowledge the way that we presently have a one of a kind chance to utilize this emergency to do things any other way and work back better economies that are increasingly manageable, versatile and comprehensive.

In a nutshell, if the pandemics become the new normal, the new normal will confront loads of difficulties yet we will definitely fight back. Several bright dimensions can be explored after a pandemic .The financial system starts moving. This pandemic has taught us to be prepared for the worst. So, improvement of health services, development of saving habits, economy in spending pattern, much less social gatherings can be observed. Self-reliance on the agriculture sector is very significant. Nepal, being an agricultural country, is beginning to become more and more autonomous in the agricultural area. In fact, the initiations of urban divisions into terrace farming is very welcoming. Above all, Thanks to COVID-19 pandemic for giving us the major lessons that "Save your money and one day your money will save you."
